A Message from Chris Eidt

September 28, 2014

We approach a strange and uncomfortable dividing line this upcoming January when we mark 18 years since Kevin passed away while playing basketball at the Plex one ordinary and unforgettable Thursday night. That line will mark the time before and after his death as equal. The funny thing about that is days before January 23, 1997 can feel like a lifetime ago and other memories can feel like yesterday.

Events like this golf outing help keep Kevin present with us and the memories fresh. For you participation and role in letting us share his story and legacy we are very grateful. That Kevin and his scholarship fund still makes a fresh impact on the lives of so many people nearly 18 years after his death is very inspiring. As one individual, Kevin clearly touched and inspired others in his short life and in his sudden death. It is you however who helped share his story and extend a legacy which honors both the achievements he reached in academics, athletics, arts, community and religious service and the personal qualities he possessed in life.

Scholarship recipients in his name have joined us in a purpose that reaches beyond just ourselves. There is richness and commitment to academic growth and service to others in the young men and women that are aided by Kevin’s spirit. We see the gift they receive being re-paid many times over in their communities and to the benefactors of the Fund. They are true men and women for others.

To those who knew Kevin your generosity has helped ease an indescribable loss as we experience your gifts of support, enthusiasm, and love. To those that never knew Kevin you have helped introduce an ideal to strive for that positively impacts the world around us.

I also want to personally extend my gratitude to John Fahey, Tom Henault, Kevin “Elvis” McCarthy, Rick Bishop, Patrick Reilly, and Todd Zola for sharing their experience of Kevin’s spirit with you and giving the gift that started this tournament.

Chris
